Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1979, Samara O'Shea began her journey as a writer in grade school. By the 10th grade, she was a self-proclaimed letter lover and wanted to spend the rest of her life giving others this wonderful gift. She would write for her school paper and was president of her college sorority. Read more.
After college, Samara headed to New York, NY where she worked in publishing. She interned at O: The Oprah Magazine, and later went on to be a lackey at Harper’s Bazaar. She began her first full-time job testing out her writing skills at Country Living Gardener magazine. In early 2004 she helped her roommate write a letter to a man — and thus, the idea of writing for other friends as well as strangers on the street was born! Samara launched her site (a feature on dailycandy.com) and signed a book deal.
Having come full circle, Samara is back in Philadelphia, blissfully spending her days between letters and cheesesteaks. In May 2007, her first book was published.
